This replica portrays Queen Maya, along with two other attendants, wandering in a garden. Queen Maya of Shakya gave birth to Gautama Buddha, the renowned teacher whose teachings served as the basis for the religion that bears his name. According to Buddhist legend, Maya passed away shortly after the birth of Buddha, which is widely thought to have been seven days after the birth of Buddha, and then she resurrected herself in a Hindu-Buddhist paradise. This is considered to be the pattern that is followed in the births of all Buddhas.
