Japanese Buddhist Altar Bronze Metal Flower Vase Vtg 2pc Hanatate Brown BA765

Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Flower Vase

This is a pair of vintage Japanese bronze metal flower vases, or hanatate, for Buddhist altars. This particular pair is lightweight. They have a traditional, simple shape with no other embellishments.
It is common to offer a range of seasonal and symbolic flowers in front of a Buddhist altar. It is also a vessel for Sakaki leaves or Shashagi leaves in Shinto. The offering of Sakaki tree leaves signifies that the gods living in the sakaki tree will protect the grave and the soul.
