A petite late 19th century holy water font in glazed earthenware, delicate and light in the hand. It features a shaped backplate with scrolling edges and polychrome decoration. A moulded religious figure stands in relief at the centre, while the basin below is decorated with a simple cross motif flanked by extending sprigs, and a dotted rim. The warm cream glaze is enlivened with hand-painted details in green and brown, giving the piece a lively yet nave charm. The interior of the basin is finished in a rich honey glaze, adding depth and contrast. Small pierced hole at the top allow for easy wall hanging. It presents in good, timeworn condition, with light glaze wear, minor chips, and small firing irregularities consistent with its age and handmade nature, all contributing to its authentic character.Such pieces were traditionally hung near an entry or bedroom door for the rite of blessing on passing, and they were often gifted for baptisms and First Comm
