This eighteenth-century painting was most likely painted by a student of an Italian art school, possibly after a painting by Poussin, entitled Saint James the Great’s Vision of the Virgin Mary. The canvas has been restretched over the frame. Unsigned.

Red and blue garments in antique religious paintings hold significance and symbolism. Red traditionally symbolizes divinity, sacrifice, and love, often associated with Christ and the Virgin Mary. Blue represents purity, truth, and heavenly grace, often referring to the Virgin Mary. Together, they convey the divine and human aspects of religious figures in art.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
